Most patients will see results such as decreased pain and stiffness within one visit! Response to care will vary from person to person depending on a variety of factors such as the length of time the symptoms have been present, severity of the condition, and overall health. For some it may take more visits to see full resolution of symptoms.

On your first visit to the chiropractor you can expect a thorough health history and physical exam to determine the root cause of your symptoms. You will discuss past injuries or conditions, your current symptoms, and what your goals are for your health. Following the physical exam, the chiropractor will discuss their findings with you and proceed with the best treatment. This often includes adjustments, soft tissue work, and therapeutic exercise. After treatment, your chiropractor will chat about the next best steps for your care.

Adjustments, or joint manipulations as they're sometimes referred to, is the application of gentle force to spinal or extremity joints using the hands or a specially designed instrument. The objective of this movement is to restore proper motion and positioning to vertebrae and extremity joints. Joints can become stiff and “hypomobile” (have less than ideal range of motion) for a variety of reasons such as normal daily activities, repetitive motions at work or during recreation, or trauma like a car accident. During an adjustment, the joint may produce a popping noise like the sound of cracking your knuckles. This sound is called “joint cavitation” and it is a normal sound produced by the release of tiny gas bubbles within the synovial fluid of the joint. It is possible for an adjustment to be effective even without an audible popping noise.
